What can you do to help a family member get help with their lung problem?

If you are a family member of someone with lung disease you may find that the first step is having them “admit to having a problem.” One way to help demonstrate to a person that they may benefit from medical help is to point out symptoms that can be corrected or improved. For example, “you are coughing all the time, wouldn’t you feel better if the doctor could get rid of that?” Or, “wow, you seem short of breath. You had a hard time coming up those stairs with the groceries. Maybe you should just get checked.” Finally, “I can hear you breathing/wheezing. You know my friend used to wheeze like that before she saw that new doctor.”
